Downtown Revitalization is a four-stage initiative focused on providing communities with the resources and knowledge needed to stimulate investment and reinvestment in traditional downtown districts.

Since 2005, over 70 communities across rural Ontario have used and been supported by OMAFRA’s Downtown Revitalization program and resources.

Starting in 2016, OMAFRA began annually connecting with a set of communities that continually focus on downtown revitalization, through the implementation of plans and actions developed initially with OMAFRA’s support. In 2018, the annual survey involved 15 communities in eight municipalities. Here’s a snapshot of impacts these communities generated from their downtown revitalization efforts in 2018:

In three years of annual report cards, select communities have had over 300 businesses make improvements, totaling investment in these small and rural downtown’s to almost $15 million.
