Local Food Conference Ignite Session (2 of 2)

The second day of the Eastern Ontario Local Foods Conference on November 5th turned out to be just as exciting as the first.  An “Ignite” session featured 10 local food presentations on a range of informative topics that included:

  • Ingite Speaker Bruce EnloeBruce Enloe, Two Rivers Food Hub spoke about community collaboration
  • Kim Leadbeater, Northumberland Food Policy Committee described how policy has led to the development of a local food Smart Board resource for schools
  • Trissia Mellor, Ontario Agri-Food Venture Centre revealed what operations look like at the County’s newly-operational micro food processing facility

  • Joli Manson, Queens University shared how Queens makes local food procurement a priority
  • Pat Learmonth, Farms at Work explained programs to support new farm start ups
  • Michael McKenzie, Seed to Sausage described how a hobby became a local food business
  • Josh Biemond, Upper Canada Creamery walked us through the process of making and selling organic yogurt
  • Ignite Speaker Cheese FestivalGeorgs Kolesnikov, Great Canadian Cheese Festival reminded everyone to make local food fun and share our passion as he has for cheese through the festival
  • Rebecca McKeen, McKeen’s Metro Glebe demonstrated a local grocer’s commitment to delivering local food to a large urban centre.
  • Kerry Wicks, Harwood Estates Winery  described how their winery operates completely off-grid
