Want to learn about downtown revitalization?

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ Downtown Revitalization Program is a comprehensive program that supports the economic development efforts of rural communities across Ontario. An initial step in this program is the  intensive downtown revitalization coordinator training provided by OMAFRA staff. This training is focused on identifying the processes and tools required to successfully undertake a downtown revitalization project.

To help communities learn more about the Downtown Revitalization Program, a training session will be offered at the Carriage House in Tillsonburg, Ontario on November 7-8, 2016. The session is open to individuals from:

  • Rural Ontario municipalities or organizations ready to proceed with a downtown revitalization project
  • Rural Ontario municipalities or organizations already engaged in downtown revitalization initiatives, with an interest in planning tools and resources
  • Other organizations with an interest in downtown revitalization or rural economic development (as space permits)

The session will be hosted by the South Central Ontario Region (SCOR), in partnership with the Town of Tillsonburg, the Tillsonburg Business Improvement Area, and the Tillsonburg District Chamber of Commerce. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from and engage with OMAFRA’s rural economic development branch staff on all aspects of downtown revitalization, network with like-minded individuals on available  tactics and tools, and learn about and experience the impacts of downtown revitalization activities in a historic downtown area.
