Sharing of (somewhat) International Best Practices on BR+E

I was invited to present on Business Retention & Expansion at the recent International Economic Development Council annual conference in Toronto. The session explored common denominators for success and highlighted unique attributes of the Halifax Partnership, the Ontario and the British Columbia programs.

At the beginning of the session we asked participants a few short questions related to their BR&E efforts. The majority of people were quite active in BR&E (which I think is great)!

During my presentation I share a number of trends we are seeing in Ontario and the following take a ways:

#Knowtherulestobreaktherules
#Taketimetoprepare
#Costcosizeit
#Ittakesavillage
#Focusforsuccess

Which are expanded on in my slides below:

ason Guidry, Director of Trade, Investment & International Partnerships at the Halifax Partnership as part of his presentation showed a great video about their BR&E program.  Check it out:

Dale Wheeldon, President & CEO, British Columbia Economic Development Association shared about their BC BusinessCounts program and important link to  Economic Disaster Recovery after the wildfires this summer.

The session highlighted that Business Retention and Expansion is an important component as it is about building relationships and understanding the needs of your existing businesses.
