Want to Learn About Downtown Revitalization? Training on Nov 6 & 7 in Lindsay

Interests

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ Downtown Revitalization Program is a comprehensive four stage approach to support economic development efforts of rural communities. As part of that program, OMAFRA provides intensive downtown revitalization coordinator training focused on identifying the processes and tools that are needed to successfully undertake a downtown revitalization initiative in a community.

An upcoming training session will be offered at Celebrations in Lindsay, Ontario on November 6-7. The training event can accommodate a limited number of participants, and will be open to individuals from:

  • Rural Ontario municipalities or organizations ready to proceed with a downtown revitalization project
  • Rural Ontario municipalities or organizations already engaged in downtown revitalization initiatives, with an interest in planning tools and resources
  • Other organizations with an interest in downtown revitalization or rural economic development (as space permits)

The training is being hosted by the City of Kawartha Lakes. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from and engage with OMAFRA’s rural economic development branch staff on all aspects of downtown revitalization, network with like-minded individuals on downtown revitalization tactics and tools, and learn about and experience the impacts of downtown revitalization activities in a historic downtown area.

For more details about the upcoming training, please contact Darren Shock, Economic Development Specialist and downtown revitalization program lead with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs at 519-826-6634 or darren.shock@ontario.ca.
