How does your local economy compare?

Examining your community in comparison to others is a great way to increase your understanding of your local economy. Comparing or benchmarking is important because it provides greater context to the information, turning simple data into knowledge.  For example, if the population of your community grew by five percent, is that consistent, faster, or slower than neighbouring communities?

Comparing your community with other areas in the province, region or neighbouring areas will allow you to:

  • identify aspects of your community that are competitive
  • look at areas where you are under performing
  • see how things are changing over time

Previously this was a long and complex analysis process for communities to undertake.
